Hello, everyone, and welcome to the Silver and Sensational blog! It is I, Lois Mills, here to share my thoughts and experiences, hoping that today’s topic will be interesting or at least enlightening.

A girl can dream, can't she?

A Childhood Dream

As a little girl, around seven or eight years old, I remember sitting on the stoop of our house. It was a real neighborhood spot with alleys instead of driveways, and I looked around, thinking, "I don’t want to live like this. I want to live like Doris Day in 'That Touch of Mink.'" Doris Day had beautiful clothes, a fabulous apartment, and an amazing career. That’s the kind of life I envisioned for myself.

Growing Up and Getting Married

As I grew up, I got married, and at that time, the Vietnam War was ongoing. Many people were getting married and having children to avoid the draft, as being married with a child was the ultimate deferment. However, I chose a different path.

The Decision Not to Have Children

The decision not to have children wasn’t one I made lightly or in a vacuum. It was influenced by many factors, including my aspirations, personal circumstances, and the societal pressures of the time. I wanted a career and a lifestyle that didn’t quite align with motherhood. I wanted to travel, experience different cultures, and live a life of adventure and freedom.

Relationships and Their Impact

One significant factor in my decision was that my relationships were not hospitable to having children. The dynamics and circumstances just weren’t conducive to bringing a child into the world. I realized that pursuing my dreams and maintaining my independence were more important to me.

Living My Childless Life to the Fullest

Not having children allowed me to pursue my dreams and passions fully. I traveled extensively, lived in beautiful places, and had a fulfilling career. I embraced the life I chose and have no regrets about the path I took. It was the right decision for me.

Reflections

Looking back, I understand that my choice to remain childless might be different from many others. Society often expects women to follow a traditional path of marriage and motherhood, but it’s important to recognize that there are many ways to lead a fulfilling life. Each person's journey is unique, and what’s right for one may not be right for another.

Thank you for visiting the Silver and Sensational blog. I hope my story offers some perspective and maybe even some comfort to those who have chosen a different path in life. Remember, your journey is your own, and it's important to follow your heart and live the life that’s right for you.

That's all for now and remember, whether you're Silver or not, try to be Sensational!

🤍, Lois
