Falling Back Without Falling Behind: Embracing the Season Without Losing Sight of Our Goals

Hello, lovely ladies! This isn’t my first time “falling back” with the clocks, and if I’m being honest, it always sounds appealing. Gaining an extra hour sounds wonderful in theory! But then, when that early sunset hits, I find myself feeling a little thrown off, almost like I’m ready to wind down earlier than usual.

Falling back but not falling behind!

I know many of us feel this seasonal shift deep down. The earlier darkness and chillier weather naturally slow us down, encouraging us to rest and hibernate a bit. While a change of pace can be good for recharging, I want to remind you (and myself!) not to let this seasonal slowdown cause us to lose sight of our goals.

Here’s how I try to stay on track with my goals during this cozy, quiet season, and I hope these tips inspire you to keep moving forward too.

1. "Fall Back" Mindfully

Instead of letting that “extra” hour drift away, let’s think of it as a little gift to ourselves. Maybe it’s a chance to revisit your goals, check in with yourself, or carve out time for activities that often get pushed aside. It doesn’t have to be grand – even a few minutes with a book you love, a brisk walk, or a quiet time to journal can keep your spirit energized.

2. Adjust Your Routine to Suit the Season

For me, as the days get shorter, I make some changes to my routine to keep my energy flowing. An earlier morning stretch or an afternoon walk before the sun sets keeps me from feeling like I’m losing the day. Sometimes, just a small tweak to our routines makes all the difference in staying engaged and on track.

3. Stay Connected to What You’ve Been Working Toward

The temptation to slow down is real, but we can slow down without giving up. Take small, manageable steps to stay engaged with your goals. Maybe you’re learning a new skill, staying active, or working on a creative project – whatever it is, just a little bit of effort each day will keep you moving forward. Remember, it’s not about doing it all but staying in touch with what’s important to you.

4. Celebrate the Small Moments

As we go through this cozy season, let’s take time to celebrate the little wins. Finished a chapter in a book? Did some stretches in the morning? Give yourself a pat on the back! Every little accomplishment deserves to be noticed, and these moments can boost our spirits even when the days are dark.

5. Make Your Space Reflect the Season

I find that creating a warm, inviting space can lift my spirits. A cozy blanket, a lovely candle, or a warm mug of tea makes a world of difference. When my environment feels comforting, I’m more motivated to keep up with my daily goals, even if it’s just a little journaling or an afternoon of knitting. (Maybe one day I'll share my personal deep dive into the knitting world!)

6. Set Simple, Seasonal Goals

With the season’s slower pace, sometimes our goals need a gentle adjustment, too. Instead of aiming for major projects, I set small, seasonal goals that feel achievable and enjoyable. Things like trying a new recipe, sorting through my closet, or even calling an old friend can be just as meaningful.

Enjoy the Season Without Losing Yourself

Let’s embrace this fall season as a time to honor our own rhythms without losing track of what’s meaningful to us. This “fall back” doesn’t have to mean falling behind; it’s a time to find balance, to slow down just enough, and to keep our goals in sight. So here’s to all of us keeping our light shining bright, even when the days get shorter! Thanks for reading and until next time, stay Sensational!

🤍, Lois
